Architect Válery Augustin is principal of Dn/A, an architecture and design firm based in Los Angeles and Miami. Before participating in a panel on how architects shape cities, he talked about his not-so-secret partying skills in the Zócalo green room.
What live performance would you most like to see next?
Björk. She’s at the Palladium, I think in June. She’s one of my favorite artists.
What do you wake up to?
The sun.
What’s the most unlikely thing Los Angeles and Miami have in common?
Shady people. [Laughs.]
What don’t you leave home without?
My phone! Guilty as charged.
Describe your singing in one word or one sentence.
Loud.
How did you get into trouble as a kid?
Jumping on the bed.
When is it OK to lie?
When you really, really, really want that thing.
What’s the best dessert you’ve eaten recently?
I would go with raspberry cheesecake from Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills. Or maybe it was just a regular cheesecake? I was kind of drunk. It was delicious, regardless.
Where would we find you at 9:00 on a typical Friday night?
Just getting home from happy hour, ready for my disco nap, and then ready to go out again.
What’s your dream car?
I would go with anything that has manual transmission. As long as it’s got a clutch and stick shift, I’m happy in it.
